About Gypsy Soul
The seasoned, international duo masterfully blends their distinctive Celtic / Americana Roots with a generous infusion of Blues, Jazz and Folk stylings. Cilette Swann's (Canadian/US) exquisitely ethereal, yet powerful four-octave range vocals are partnered with Roman Morykit's (UK) masterful bass and innovative guitar counterpoint. Compared by critics to artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Eva Cassidy, Kate Bush, David Gray, Fleetwood Mac and Bonnie Raitt, these independent mavericks have produced ten critically acclaimed CDs. In September of 2009, their 9th CD, Beneath The Covers: A Rediscovery won Best International Cover Song CD in the worlds largest music awards at Just Plain Folks (aka: the independent Grammys) out of 42,000 CDs from 150 plus countries.
Gypsy Soul has been hailed as "one of the most brilliantly instrumented and vocally adept bands alive and kicking," by the OC WEEKLY. Despite their unique, multi-cultural sound, they have managed to earn a Top 40 hit at Adult Contemporary radio, the #5 position on the International New Age Charts and both a #1 and #8 slot on the Folk DJ Charts. They've also won many independent music awards including Lilith Fair. With their unique ability to connect deeply with their audiences and through their performing excellence and memorable shows, Gypsy Soul has garnered "Critics Choice" in over 60 plus publications nationally including: LA Times, San Francisco Examiner, Seattle Post Intelligencer, The Standard Examiner, SLC Weekly, OC Weekly, OC Register and numerous others.
Searching for a musical soul mate, Swann traveled to Europe chasing her Celtic roots. After a few years singing in French jazz clubs, her quest took her to Scotland where she met world-class musician and producer, Morykit. The duo has since recorded ten CDs over a decade. Through their relentless touring and unforgettable performances, these esteemed performers have sold over 110,000 CDs in the U.S. alone without label support. Their music has aired in numerous countries and over 120 times in films and TV shows including Providence, Felicity, Roswell, After Sex, Quicksand and others. Like an exquisite dessert, Gypsy Soul's eclectic sound and acoustic excellence is a rich, multi-layered experience that has been described by KLOS RADIO as "Gourmet Music."
